Workshops

BACK TO BASICS

Saturday 25th Feb 2012

1-3pm

Are you new to yoga or have some experience and just want to learn more about some postures and Vinyasa flow?

Are you passionate about continuing your love affair with yoga?

Do you want to know the finer details of “Chaturanga” and Sun Salutations?

Join Kozen Yoga instructor, Sally Meredith, for a workshop with a strong focus on alignment in the common postures (asanas) and sequences practiced at Kozen Yoga. Sally will break down all of the poses in the Sun Salutation series and some additional poses.

Even for the experienced yogi, this workshop is ideal for you to ‘feel’ into your postures correctly and get a step-by-step explanation along the way. Correct alignment and increased knowledge will bring a greater depth to your poses and in turn your personal practice leading to a healthy and happy long term relationship to yoga.

Over the two hours you will come back to the basics of using the breath, ask any burning questions you may have, share with others and build a solid foundation in yoga.

Bandhas, Breath, Placement and Presence

Saturday 3rd March 2012,

1-3pm

Do you want to learn more about your “bandhas” and when to use them?

Looking to deepen your practice and develop a new awareness of yoga?

Do you want to know the finer details of shoulder stand and its alternatives?

This two hour workshop will look at some of the key standing, balancing and seated postures (asana) practiced at Kozen, focusing on  placement and alignment so that they can be practiced not only safely but effectively too.

Sally will also go further into exploring the main bandhas (mula, uddiayna and jalandara). On an anatomical level a bandha is the action in the muscle groups crossing a joint complex to support a pose. We will be focusing on the three main bandhas in the body and how and when they should be used to take your practice deeper.

It will also cover shoulder stand and its preparation, counterbalancing and alternative asana will be broken down, allowing people to build a solid understanding and foundation in the pose.

GREAT FOR THE BEGINNER- EVERYONE IS WELCOME

Coming soon.....2012

Participants will be taken on a 2-hour journey through dynamic vinyasa, gently leading up to long holds in specific postures to encourage deeper openings. It will be a well-rounded class, with a focus on hip opening and back bending poses. Advanced inversions will be broken down, allowing people to build a solid foundation in the pose. For some this may mean to take the pose to a more challenging level. For others, the emphasis will be on improving technique, or simply taking preparatory steps to build strength and confidence. The practice will end with an introduction into Pranayama (breathing techniques) before Savasana (relaxation). This class is aimed at participants who have an intermediate to strong and regular practice.

The more ‘chilled out’ side of flying. This workshop will have a focus on the therapeutics of flying yoga, incorporating massage and gentle adjustments whilst being supported or supporting. Ideal for first time flyers/bases. The more experienced will explore therapeutic flying flows, learning how to safely transition through flying yoga poses.

The more ‘extreme’ side of flying. This workshop will be more dynamic with a focus on inversions, acro-balancing and acrobatic flying. Ideal for those looking to improve their headstand/handstands and who have some experience of flying yoga/acrobatics. For this workshop, it is recommended that you already have a headstand/handstand practice (with or without the wall).
